Self-compassion is an inner strength that enables us to be more fully ourselves and involves development of the capacity to comfort and soothe ourselves, motivate ourselves with encouragement when we feel inadequate, suffer, or fail in anyway. These skills are learned by connecting with our innate compassion for others and learning to include ourselves in that circle of compassion. There are many positive benefits to developing a self-compassion practice including: enhancing the capacity for emotional wellbeing, developing coping mechanisms in the face of life’s many challenges, experiencing lower levels of anxiety and depression, increasing the ability to engage in positive health habits and experiencing more satisfying personal relationships. Additionally, self-compassion practice helps us to grow and sustain our compassion for others.
